Thanksgiving 2010 ~ SPECIAL Memory

What a special Thanksgiving I enjoyed this year. With no family nearby anymore, I was prepared to spend it happily with my kitties, and then take a lovely walk around my pretty neighborhood. A dear friend asked if I had plans. With that said, the next thing I knew there was a generous invitation to her enormous forty-person-family-party on the west side of Phoenix.. The people were so genuine and caring for each other, it had me smiling the entire time I was there.
Right before we lined up to eat Thanksgiving dinner, my friend's nephew's parents announced a special honor for him from the US Airforce. Caesar was just in on a brief leave from Iraq. After ten years of loyal service, he was awarded a stunning American flag that had flown over a military area in Iraq, with a certificate honoring his ten years of work. You could just see how this close-knit family held him in prayer all the time he was in grave danger. They hugged often and it made me smile more. The food was yummy, the people were delightful, and I am still smiling a day later. Thank you so much for inviting me. Thank you GOD, so much, for bringing this wonderful young man back safely from a heinous war zone. He will again be deployed to a danger zone very shortly.
I will keep on praying with his parents for Caesar's safety. God Bless America. amen

That's a wonderful story! I used to think happy families who truly cared about each other were make-believe, but I've been slowly convinced it really does happen.

Target, Hero Dog Euthanized By Mistake

Dear Readers,
This is so disturbing to me and all the people I work with to save animals, that I wanted you to read about Target's heroic journey. Beautiful Target and her grieving family, I send my deepest sympathy and empathy to you for this tragic loss of her life.

Target, the dog who survived Afghan war and melted hearts on Oprah, mistakenly put down at Arizona animal shelter

Target the dog lived through explosions in war-torn Afghanistan, saved the lives of U.S. soldiers and was featured on Oprah - but she couldn't survive a brief stay at an Arizona animal shelter.
An employee at the Pinal County facility was today on administrative leave after euthanizing the shepherd mix by mistake.
'When it comes to euthanizing an animal, there are some clear-cut procedures to follow,' said Ruth Stalter, director of the Animal Care And Control centre.'Based on my preliminary investigation, our employee did not follow those procedures.'
Scroll down for video report

Target befriended American soldiers in Afghanistan, and helped scare a suicide bomber who showed up at a base wearing 25 lbs of explosives, barking at and biting the terrorist

Target was hailed a hero and her injuries were treated by medics as though she was a soldier. She lived, came to live in Arizona and appeared on Oprah with her owner Sgt. Young
Sgt. Terry Young, the owner of the dog, told The Arizona Republic, 'I just can't believe that something like this would happen to such a good dog.'
Target and two other dogs, Rufus and Sasha, were mutts who befriended soldiers stationed in Afghanistan, who began to feed them and treated the canines as pets on the military base.
One night in February a suicide bomber came to the base in the middle of the night, wearing 25 pounds of explosives and intent on killing Americans.
The three dogs frightened, barked at and bit the bomber, scaring him and waking the sleeping soldiers in the process. Deterred, the terrorist detonated himself outside instead of coming in.
The lives of 50 soldiers were potentially spared because of the dogs' actions.
Sasha was killed, but Target and Rufus lived. Medics treated the injured dogs like soldiers and the two were saved.
Only five soldiers were injured in the bombing and all recovered
Sgt Young said the dogs was treated like royalty from then on at the base at Dand Patan, near the Pakistan border.
With the help of aid groups, Sgt Young brought Target to the San Tan Valley area south-east of Phoenix in August, when he returned home from his tour of duty. Rufus went to live with another soldier in Georgia.
Target was featured on 'Oprah' in September in a show about amazing animals.
On Friday of last week the dog escaped from the family's backyard. Sgt Young then put out notices and contacted TV stations that did reports on the missing dog.

Sgt Young's 4-year-old son (seen here when Target arrived from Afghanistan) has been devastated by the pet's death and asked his dad to take out the poison and bring the beloved animal home

She wore a special pink camouflage collar
A neighbour found Target wandering later that day and put her in his backyard and called the shelter. The dog did not have a microchip or tag.
On Friday night, Sgt Young found Target's picture on a website used by Pinal County's dog catchers to help owners track lost pets. He thought the shelter was closed for the night and weekend.
He showed up at the shelter in Casa Grande to claim his dog on Monday, only to find out she was dead.
County officials say the employee mistakenly took the dog out of its pen Monday morning and euthanized it.
'My four-year-old son just can't understand what is going on with Target and keeps asking me to get the poison out of her and bring her home. They don't want her to go be with God yet,' a teary Sgt Young told the local CBS TV station.
The Arizona Republic said Sgt Young and his family will get the dog's cremated remains.

What a testimonial to your love for one another. How precious are our pets! May they be nurtured here and in heaven. Especially at risk are those who are abandoned, roaming the streets hungry, wounded, sick. God bless them all. amen

Military Poem-The Final Inspection, Author Unknown

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The Soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass..
'Step forward now,Soldier ,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church, Temple have you been true?'
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear..
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

'Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

NO ONE LOVED YOU MORE

NO ONE LOVED YOU MORE
By Dr. RubyNorma Yanez, Ch.t

Only God Almighty knows why you came to us at the time of so much suffering. But no one loved you more than we did. Is there anything as precious as a beautiful, little, newborn baby? So innocent. So sweet. It simply takes my breath away.

I would stand over your crib and thrill to each breath you took while sleeping. It was my ritual of unconditional love for your brand new life.

Daddy would sing and tell you stories while you were both together and hugging in his bed. Even though he could no longer walk, his still strong voice still gave you comfort and nurture. We both knew that this had to last your entire lifetime.

Grandma Irene would hold you to her soul. She thrilled to make up so many fairytales for your ears, for you to recall how much she cherished your sweet little body on her lap and chest. You would look up to her and worship the sound of her voice. Because of you, she forced herself to live another two years. I begged her. Otherwise you would have known no grandparents. You were her miracle, her Magick elixir of healing. And, you were mine as well. All those precious baby kisses kept her here a little while longer.
Thank you. Thank you.

Even the thought of making you your favorite foods gave me and Grandma Irene joy. I would sew clothing for us to match each other, and we were a real team, you and I. Then we would go out food shopping to the stores and people would comment how cute we both looked together in matching clothes. I cherished your little playmates. When you laughed, so did I. When they laughed, so did I.

Cousin Bob would bring you toys and kiss you. He loved tossing you up in the air and catching you. Oh boy did you giggle from this warm and loving friendship. How little time we all had with him. His mom and dad, Aunt LiL and Uncle Les, (you would call him UNCA’ YESTER), cherished you as their beloved granddaughter. My God how much they loved you. We visited them very often and spoke all the time on the phone.

The very last words your father ever said to you in the hospice when you were 15 months were, “Bye’ Bye’ JoAnn.” We never saw him again. God released his suffering body and I spiritually rejoiced for his healing. Yes, death can be a healing when a loved one is in agony. Those last words he managed to say to you still haunt me sometimes. Rest In Peace.
Please know that…
He loved you so much, even felt guilty, and did not want to leave you. BUT….. Almighty Inscrutable God’s Will Be Done. Of course they all watch over you, still. You meant the whole world to them. I know, they still shower you with spiritual love. You gave so much joy to these people. You gave so much joy to me. That precious little girl is all grown up now. We will never forget your love and laughter. Thank you. Thank you. MOM *o*

KITTEN by Sharon King-Booker

This lovely poem is written by my talented colleague and friend,
Sharon King-Booker. The photos are left to right.... Egypt Farina, Sir Magick, Pharaoh Darling and Angelo. They are all so sweet and innocent. May God Bless the Precious Animals. amen RubyNorma *o*
KITTEN

RUNNING, JUMPING, CLIMBING, LEAPING,
THEN JUST AS SUDDENLY SHE'S SLEEPING,
CURLED UP ON MY FAVORITE CHAIR.
SHALL I WAKE HER? WOULDN'T DARE!
THEN TIME FOR FOOD IN VOICE COMMANDING,
OR A PLACE UPON MY LAP DEMANDING.

WHAT'S THAT SOUND, A MOTOR WHIRRING?
NO, IT'S JUST THE SOUND OF PURRING!
I BUY HER TOYS OFF PET STORE RACKS
TO FIND SHE'D RATHER HAVE THE SACKS,
BECAUSE SHE'S PLEASED WITH LITTLE THINGS--
A BALL OF FOIL, A PIECE OF STRING.

AND WHEN AT NIGHT I GO TO BED,
SHE COMES AND CURLS UP BY MY HEAD.
THEN THOUGHTS OF WORLDLY CARES DO FLY
WHEN SHE BEGINS HER LULLABY.
YES, IT'S PLAIN TO SEE I'M REALLY SMITTEN
BY THE LOVE I SHARE WITH MY LITTLE KITTEN.
